Identity Theft Prevention Services

Article by Pj Germain

Identity thieves are becoming more sophisticated with every passing day. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Identity theft tin happen anywhere to anyone. In line at the store, online at home or when you’re buying your morning coffee. Identity theft is one of the most common problems that people face today. Any of your personal information can be used to commit the crime.

Identity theft-protection company Lifelock is in the news this morning. The company, headed by CEO Todd Davis, is known for its challenge ad (reproduced below) which has been running for a couple of years. Identity theft tin happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone. Identity fraud has become a huge concern in today’s new age and even though precautions have been taken to correct the situation there has not been much success. In the US approximately 120 million citizens had their private recorded exposed in the last three years causing approximately 27 million Americans to become identity theft victims.

Identity theft in the most extreme cases allows people to get insurance in your name, unfastened false bank accounts and even tin provide a cover when arrested for other crimes. Ident-A-Kid’s Immediate Response Card systems utilize a highly bolted digital data acquisition system. A complete profile of each child, including fingerprint, photograph, height and weight, is acquired in less than 15 seconds. Identity theft is the well-nigh rapidly growing crime in the world. It’s now bringing in more money than dosing trafficking.

Credit

Credit card fraud is the most common form of ‘identity theft.’ It threatens no liability and only a little bit of inconvenience to most consumers in the United States – consumers that are prudent, anyway. And I’ve never understood what these services would or could do to prevent or mitigate a true impersonation fraud. Credit card companies still sent actual credit cards in their pre-approval mailings and one was stolen out of my mailbox. A year later, I received a collection notice that over 00 was charged at a retailer blocks away from my home. Credit card fraud is often confused for identity theft because of those clever commercials with the funny voice-overs but it’s really a walk in the park compared to identity theft. It won’t take just a few phone calls to clear it up either.

Credit monitoring is an afterthought. What credit monitoring is, is selling you your own data.

Credit Fraud

In the long run, credit fraud consistently hurts all of us. No one is totally absorbing these costs by themselves. They continually get passed on to the consumers. There are various fraud alert mechanisms that ensure that creditors notify you and verify your identity before any new line of attributed is opened in your name. One of today’s most common mechanisms is the unexampled and famous LifeLock.

LifeLock

You can protect your credit (and your family’s credit) with some outstanding features provided by LifeLock. At the time of this writing, there are even several websites offering LifeLock coupons. You can simply run a simple search engine query on “LifeLock coupons” and you’re sure to come across several sites to review and choose from. LifeLock is indeed a big name in identity theft prevention today. Some say it is a bit overkill, some say it’s exactly what they needed. Review the information carefully and you decide.

AlertPay provides good online holiday shopping experience

Montreal, Quebec (PRWEB) December 19, 2011

As more shoppers choose to buy online for their holiday gifts, responsible payment processors must be extra vigilant to ensure the security of shoppers’ financial data.AlertPay, a leading online payment processor, takes the extra step by using a dual transaction protection system to prevent online fraud or identity theft.

A dual transaction protection system doubles the safety of shoppers’ personal data, without adding any significant delays. AlertPay’s dual transaction protection system is simple to use: when a shopper wants to make a payment from their AlertPay account, they must both, login to their account with their password and enter a numeric transaction PIN to confirm their identity. The added layer of protection plays an important role in blocking unauthorized account access and prevents AlertPay members’ accounts from being hacked and misused. The dual protection system also acts as an additional layer of security for members who make transactions from public computers.

“We prefer to unified the dual protection system into our payment platform because we take the safety of our members’ accounts very seriously and are committing to doing as much as we tin to keep our system secure,” says Ferhan Patel, AlertPay’s COO. “It is an important component of our service offering, because it is a feature not all payment processing companies offer, and is often all that is needed to foil account breaches and fraud.”
AlertPay also ensures sensitive financial data cannot be intercepted by encrypting all data with SSL encryption. All AlertPay pages are protected by https (hyper text transfer protocol secure), which means that all data entered into these paged is encrypted. Having state of the art technology with encryption renders data unserviceable to potential thieves even if they have gained access to data.

“I feel a lot more secure shopping with AlertPay because I know that my account is protected from hackers, and my identity is kept private,” says Annie, a Canadian AlertPay member who relies on the company to process payments for her holiday shopping needs. “The company fills an important niche. I no longer have the time to go to a shopping mall and buy all my gifts, but when I shop online I need to know that I am dealing with a reputable, secure company. Also, I need the process of making payments to be quick and convenient. AlertPay does a great job of providing all these things. Shopping through their system gives me peace of mind and makes my holiday shopping fun and easy.”

About AlertPay

AlertPay is a Montreal-based online payment platform that specializes in making and accepting secure e-wallet and credit card payments. The company has 7.7 million members and offers its services in 197 countries and in 22 different currencies. More than 15,000 merchants use AlertPay as an one-stop-shop solution to accepting payments. The company also offers foreign exchange services, localized banking, fraud prevention, email invoicing, mass and single remittances and business management tools.

Question by pleasanton_ca@sbcglobal.net: What do i do with this unique form of identity theft?
I have so much identity theft from a corrupt mortgage broker (most likely). I paid on two cards for at least six months, which was so stupid. In december, enough was enough and I stopped paying. I have finally started to take action. My attorney says that these can still be proven, but I see little hope. Anybody out there that works in this field? Freemason here.

Best answer:

Answer by Amanda
Have you contacted the card companies directly. You can dispute charges quite easily. Good luck, sounds like a serious situation.

How You Can Implement Identity Theft Prevention Measures

Article by Jon Arnold

You will want to do all that you can to prevent identity theft. Identity theft is a growing crime and its results can be devastating to the person whose identity is stolen. It tin take years to straighten out or prove that your identity has been stolen. Identity theft prevention is something that you should take really seriously.

Most thieves tin steal your identity simply from going through your garbage. Yes, you read that correctly. They will go through your garbage to get your tossed out credit card and bank statements. Never throw out this information in the trash. Buy a shredder that cross cuts the paper and credit cards that are put through. Shredding your financial documents is the first place that you tin start to prevent identity theft. A decent track cut shredder will probably cost under , but it is a wise investment and a small price to pay to prevent identity theft.

If you frequently use ATMs, make sure you tin cover the keypad in such a way that no one tin see what you are doing. If you notice anyone hanging about suspiciously or who is getting too close to you, leave the ATM immediately. There are thieves who are adept at lifting surfing and tin obtain your PIN number easily. You will be able to locate another ATM quickly enough to get your transaction done. If you have a bad feeling about a situation, it is best to listen to that inner voice and leave.

Never leave your outgoing mail in the mailbox for the postal carrier to pick up. Mail theft is another way that identity thieves tin get your information. They can easily open your mail and change your address. Once that is done they tin wreak havoc with your banking and credit card accounts and you won’t level know it for a month or two. It is worth the effort to mail your bills at the post office.

If you notice that your credit cards are about to expire, but you did not receive the new cards in the pouch, call the credit card company. It is possible that someone changed your address and the new credit cards were sent to the thief’s address. Cancel in writing all credit cards that you no longer use. There is no reason to keep these accounts open and they are easy targets for identity theft. Keep a copy of the letter for your records so you have proof in case worse comes to worse.

Create different PINs and passwords for your accounts. If you are asked to provide your mother’s maiden name, don’t give it. Make up a maiden name! No one will know that it isn’t correct except you. Thieves will be able to find out your mother’s maiden name so it is not a name that is personal and original just to you.

If you can, have a mailbox that is a slot through your front door because it will prevent your mail making getting stolen from the mailbox. If that is not possible, viewing getting a locking mailbox or having your pouch get sent to a PO Box at the post office. This is one way to make your pouch secure.

The credit bureaus are keeping quiet about the best identity theft prevention option, the Credit Freeze. They apparently dont want you to cognize about the credit freeze (aka Security Freeze) because once your credit is freeze they can not sell your personal credit information to numerous marketers. We want you to know about this little known secret and ask that you share it with your friends and family; the most effective personal option for identity theft prevention is the credit glaciate, period. A credit freeze is a more effective method of identity theft prevention than a fraud alert (what Lifelock and others sell) because with a fraud alert, creditors still have access to your attribute file and often ignore the alert and grant credit anyway! So both methods are aimed at stopping identity thieves from obtaining new credit lines in your call but the credit freeze is a much more potent protection for consumers concerned with identity theft prevention. Because the credit freeze is only obtainable directly from the credit bureaus (and they dont want you to know about it) there is very low public awareness about this identity theft prevention option. It is easy to acquire how you can freeze and unfreeze your credit at the three major credit bureaus through the use of a credit freeze. We show you how, step by backpedal in this video. Please visit www.IdentityTheft.info, for more information about a security credit freeze and identity theft prevention.
